Peder Smedvig Scholarship Fund

The Peder Smedvig Scholarship Fund has granted scholarships to students enrolled in higher education abroad since 1992. Through appropriate and long-term management we have preserved the fund’s basic capital in a good manner for 25 years, allowing us to still be able to provide financial support to students. Smedvig wishes to inspire and contribute to qualified, ambitious and goal-oriented youth who primarily are studying in economics-related subjects to be able to have the opportunity to obtain a supplemental education outside their native country. It is the experience of the founder that studies abroad are not just something that contribute solely to professional development, but rather also to personal and language skill development via encounters with other academic cultures. On this basis, we believe that studies abroad ought to be of a certain duration. We award around six scholarships annually of up to NOK 100,000 per scholarship to applicants who are pursuing a continuing education as described above. The continuing education that the recipient of the scholarship is taking must lead to a Master’s Degree, Ph.D. or the equivalent designation.

The scholarship is provided only for full-time studies that last at least one academic year, and which result in a final exam. There is a requirement that the scholarship recipients live abroad for the entire academic year. The scholarship will be disbursed in monthly or quarterly payments. All applications that satisfy the requirements below and which are received before the deadline will be evaluated.

All ambitious and qualified students are encouraged to apply for financial support from the Peder Smedvig Scholarship Fund. We especially encourage students with ties to Stavanger and Rogaland to apply.
