The Nora Smedvig Foundation was established at the turn of the millennium by Nora Smedvig Sr. in memory of her daughter Nora Smedvig. The purpose of the foundation is to provide personnel at the cancer department of Stavanger University Hospital with support for conferences, scholarships both for courses as well as continuing education, and for conducting research. The annual grants must help arrange to provide the personnel with impulses and increased competence in the treatment of cancer.
It is a desire on the part of the founder that priority be given to healthcare personnel, and preference in such case to nurses and care-providing assistants. These individuals make formidable efforts for persons and families affected by cancer. For the founder and the Board of the foundation, it is important to be able to contribute to increased research and competence development in this field.
